hove’s first record on light of other days gets a second pressing. the first pressing was self-distributed and only 150 copies were made. enjoy! hove’s debut ep is full of fuzzy melodies fused with shimmering arpeggios and reduced cosmic beats. produced at the light of other days headquarters in the heart of zurich, hove developed his sound out of various live-jams, which he recorded onto a tascam cassette recorder. these recordings alongside numerous field recordings build the foundation of the ep journey to arendal. influenced by the sound aesthetic of early electronic producers from the 80’s and 90’s, as well as contemporary house, disco or techno, hove’s music always has a certain kind of warmth to it. dusty, shuffling grooves meet woozy guitar chords while crystal clear synth melodies are paired with field recordings of rivers, birds or nocturnal city atmospheres. journey to arendal is out on january 29th, 2016 on light of other days.

following the success of the first treasure dub album, a second volume was hastily assembled. repeating the formula of the previous collection, the set featured 12 hard and heavy dub tracks that utilised some of duke reid’s most celebrated rock steady and reggae rhythms. as with volume 1, the musicianship from tommy mccook & the supersonics and mixing skills of ace treasure isle studio sound engineer, errol brown combined to create one of the finest dub lps of the mid-1970s.

simbad teams up with south african vocalist brian temba, whose previous release together come join in dropped on hi:rise back in 2011. in it’s original form take my hand is a sublime, forward-looking deep and soulful house track based around a filtering symphonic string loop, low-slung groove and heart-felt vocal. simbad has created a very london-centric vibe but with a french touch and detroit sensibilities, drawing from house heroes such as parrish and bradock, joining the dots and creating a fresh masterpiece in the process. next up we have jimpster on the remix, picking up the bpm’s slightly and loading up on his trademark deep stabs, sub-bass and spacious fx adding just enough dance-floor bump whilst leaving the vocal placed firmly at the core. on the flip side we have two smbd zulu edits which replace the more spartan groove of the original with some driving afro percussion. the first version keeps the vocal intact, the second version goes balls deep into dub territory, closing out this amazing release with an instrumental pushing the strings and hypnotic groove front and centre

for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.

luv shack records 26th release marks the return of vienna based artist and label regular lesale. the baguette magique ep packs three punchy original tracks plus a remix by deep disco don and vienna resident roman rauch. first off, there s the original version of baguette magique , an uplifting dance opus carried by a tantalising disco sample, a plethora of bleeps and synthetic patterns, evolving into a cosmic, almost-techno piece in the second half. roman rauch s remix takes out the tempo and the quirkiness of baguette magique , instead opting for a laid back 80s tropical groove, turning the original theme into an insanely deep and obscure chord sequence. on the flip, lesale takes things to disco territory with percussive drums, a cheeky filtered sample and a hyperactive synth bass sequence on house rules . jungle breeze wraps up the release, offering a hazy mix of deep pads, tribal drums and oddball flute samples.

by now, the story of how jlin went from working in a steel factory in gary, indiana to being one of the most widely appreciated electronic musicians is well known. “black origami” was one of the most lauded albums last year. seriously prolific and seriously hard-working, she has toured constantly since its may 2017 release and despite being involved in a wide range of projects, still manages to find a balance and time to “do some personal healing and growing.”
here we are over a year later with “autobiography,” the score for her collaboration with renowned british choreographer wayne mcgregor (a collaboration arranged by krakow’s unsound). this isn’t technically her third album (that’s due to arrive in 2019 or 2020), but the soundtrack stands up on its own with all the emotional peaks and troughs of a well-sequenced lp.
